JoinTogether: RSS Syndication

Join Together uses RSS to syndicate their news and resources to a variety of separate channels.  Some channels are direct partnerships whereby the Join Together content is republished on the partner's Web site, while many others are simply individual supporters of JoinTogether who choose to display the RSS feed on their personal Web sites.

How it works

  1. Join Together uses the Convio CMS application for their content management.
  2. They have a Content Type for News that includes multiple category designations (e.g. Tobacco, Alcohol, Funding, etc.).
  3. They have RSS feeds available on their Web site matching the categories.
  4. The partner Web site Quitnet.com has decided to consume and repost the RSS feed for Tobacco related news.
  5. Supporter Joe has added the RSS feed to his Facebook profile using a Facebook application called Simple RSS.
  6. Joe has also added the RSS feed to his Google Reader application for quick access to news of interest.

As a result, JoinTogether has created a news feed which they populate and maintain in one place only, yet benefit from multiple third-party channel syndications of their content.
