FairTax: Video Integration

FairTax needed a way to make a real connection between their online engagement with supporters and the offline rallies held periodically as well as create a national awareness of geographically specific events where constituents could rally.

Solution

FairTax launched a campaign asking constituents to create videos that explained their personal reasons for supporting FairTax and its mission and post the videos to YouTube. The FairTax staff then selected a short list of the best videos and integrated them into a voting campaign, where the constituents were able to view and vote for their favorite video right on the website. The winning video was shown at a rally in Columbia, South Carolina.

The Convio CSS team was able to help FairTax plan and implement the campaign, from concept to logistics. Specifically, Convio Integration Technology Specialists assisted FairTax in creating a web page that integrated both video and survey components to select the winning video.

Results

The contest generated 20 videos for voting, but there was a beneficial after-effect. The contest inspired many people to continue to create videos, and now there are hundreds of videos on YouTube relating to FairTax. In terms of the contest, there were thousands of votes cast, and FairTax benefited from a 1% housefile growth comprised solely of voters.

About Americans For Fair Taxation

Americans For Fair Taxation was formed in 1995 as a 501 (c)(4) nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots organization solely dedicated to replacing the current tax system. It began as a research organization with the initial goal of finding out what the American people wanted in a tax system, what they felt was the best way for the government to collect revenue, and how taxation could be achieved in a way that most benefited the economy and the taxpayers. Many diverse groups of Americans participated in the extensive polling and focus group studies, and then a nonpartisan team of economists was commissioned to develop the FairTax plan. The organization today has hundreds of thousands of members and volunteers nationwide.  Its plan supports sound economic research, education of citizens and community leaders, and grassroots mobilization efforts.
